In Roman times, Baden was known as "Aquae Helveticae" because of its hot springs. Even today there is a bathing festival and thermal baths.
Baden developed as the economic and commercial centre of a region that is home to numerous national and international companies. Almost 20,000 people from over 80 nations live here, giving the city an international flair.
