Success story from CAL Consult

As both our CAL Consult branches use Projektron BCS, it was easy to realise a merger between these two branches. Processes can be better standardised, which in turn forms a good basis for quickly launching joint projects, communicating with each other in a targeted manner and thus successfully implementing customer and IT projects.


CAL Consult focuses on the implementation of standard logistics software for warehousing, transport and forwarding. Since 2011, we have been using Projektron BCS as the leading system for managing our customer service processes.

About CAL Consult

Since our foundation in 1992, we have pursued the goal of optimally supporting the growing requirements of service providers in the logistics sector. Our customers range from medium-sized freight forwarders, warehouses, shippers and 3PL companies to leading international logistics service providers in import and export. Our customer relationships are geared towards long-term partnerships and win-win situations for both partners. As a competent IT partner, we want to ensure the long-term satisfaction of our customers through a high level of practical relevance and quality.

In addition to innovative products, we offer them a comprehensive service - from 24/7 support to the continuous optimisation of implementation costs.

Our need for a project management tool

In 2010, a project group was set up to find a joint information system for CAL Consult Ede and Nuremberg. At the same time, the new system should also bring benefits for our customers. At the time of the search, the project group did not yet have a comprehensive project management tool in mind.

In the inventory of the systems used to date, it became apparent that many isolated solutions, from Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to in-house developments and third-party software, were being used.

In addition, the two branches were using different systems for the same purpose. This prevented the two parts of the company from working together effectively.

During our search for a suitable information system, it became apparent that many of the systems tested were unable to fulfil our functional requirements for project management. We realised that our organisation is highly project-oriented and that our IT projects are often complex in nature.

Our decision in favour of Projektron BCS

In any case, the project management tool to be selected had to support the German language. This knock-out criterion ultimately resulted in two project management tools being shortlisted. After several workshops, we decided to introduce Projektron BCS in autumn 2010. Projektron BCS was the best solution for (multi-)project management and also offers a fully-fledged solution for time registration, capacity and holiday planning as well as account management and controlling. Projektron BCS also includes a ticket system that could be quickly and flexibly customised to our needs and requirements.

As Projektron BCS is web-based, we can make some functions, such as the ticket system, available to our customers. This has enabled us to improve co-operation and our customer service.

Our experience with Projektron BCS

Over the past 13 years, we have implemented several processes on Projektron BCS, which have changed several times in the meantime. The flexibility that BCS offers gives us a lot of room for manoeuvre when configuring the application to our specific requirements.

The automatic import of e-mails and interfaces to other applications that we use in our company are easy to implement. For example, we were able to realise a link to our Microsoft Exchange environment, the Active Directory and our payroll and financial accounting. We also use Power BI to create KPIs and dashboards on the data we receive from BCS via automated exports. This gives us clear insight and transparency into our processes and results.

Our plans for the future

We are in the process of fully integrating our processes in Ede and Nuremberg in order to create a uniform organisational model. This change also has an impact on the structure of the BCS, where Projektron has already been able to provide us with good support in some areas.

In the coming period, we will make further adjustments to optimise support for our joint processes. And we are convinced that Projektron's application and expertise will provide us with the best solutions.
